Head Coverings
From a seventeen year old

The Scriptures tell us that a woman is to have her head covered as a symbol of authority; the man being over the woman, or the husband being over the wife.

1st Corinthians 11:9-10
9 for neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man:
10 for this cause ought the woman to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.

This passage clearly states that a woman is to have her head covered.

What about the man?  Should the man have a head covering according to Scripture?

1st Corinthians 11:3, 12 
3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Mashiach; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Mashiach is Elohim.
12 For as the woman is of the man, so is the man also by the woman; but all things are of Elohim.

What was the reasoning for the woman to wear a head covering?  The woman was made for the man.

Genesis 1:27 
And Elohim created man in His own image, in the image of Elohim created He him; male and female created He them.

 

Genesis  2:15 
And YHWH Elohim took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

As we can see in these two passages, man was made for Elohim.  Woman was made for man and commanded to wear a symbol of authority on her head.

Man was made for Elohim, so should a man wear a symbol of authority on his head?

1st Corinthians 11:11 
Nevertheless, neither is the woman without the man, nor the man without the woman, in YHWH.

When a man and a woman marry they become one (echad).  In verse 12 it tells us that both man and woman are from Elohim.  Do you think you are under Elohim or above Elohim?  Show that you are under Him by your actions and not just your words by covering your head.

But if a man should have his head covered doesn’t that contradict verse four of 1st Corinthians chapter eleven?

1st Corinthians 11:4 
Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.

The word covered was added by the translators in verse four.

1st Corinthians 11:3 
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Mashiach; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Mashiach is Elohim.

We have another confirmation of a man and a woman wearing a symbol of authority, but that is not all the passage says.  It also said that the head of Mashiach is Elohim (YHWH).  I think that from this passage we can safely say that Yeshua wore a head covering to show that YHWH (the Father) was over Him (Yeshua the Son).

Deuteronomy 25:13 
“You shall not have in your bag diverse weights, a great and a small.”

Matthew 5:37 
“But let your speech be, ‘Yes, yes’; ‘No, no’, and whatsoever is more than these is of the evil one.”

If you have a man and a woman and they are both equally keeping Torah, would it be right to say, “Yes, the woman should wear a head covering,” and then say, “No, the man should not wear a head covering”?

If a man and a woman are found committing adultery are they not punished together?

Leviticus 20:10 
And the man that commits adultery with another man's wife, even he that commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Isaiah 62:5 
“For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your Elohim rejoice over you.”

We are a bride to YHWH.  Does this mean we are to cover our heads?

1st Corinthians 11:10 
for this cause ought the woman to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.

When a man and a woman marry they become one (echad).  In verse 12 above it tells us that both man and woman are from Elohim.  Do you think you are under Elohim’s authority or above it?  Have you ever seen a child that thinks he is the boss, that he rules over the parents?  The child bosses the parents around and if it goes on too long where the child refuses to listen, then according to Scriptures the child is to be stoned to death.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21
18 “If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, that will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them;
19 then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;
20 and they shall say unto the elders of his city, “This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.”
21 And all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; so shall you put away the evil from the midst of thee; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.”

The head covering (the symbol of authority) is a witness to others that says, “I am under Elohim and will obey His Voice.”

Why do you think Yisrael was wondering in the wilderness for forty years?  YHWH was disciplining us, and we have a chance right now to submit to His authority and obey His Voice.
